# Where to Find Your API Key

Your API key authenticates every request to the Templated API. You also paste it in Zapier, Make, n8n and other tools when they ask for authentication.

## Find your API key

1. Log in at https://app.templated.io
2. In the left sidebar, click **API Key**. Direct link: https://app.templated.io/api-key
3. Click the **copy** button next to the key. You can also click the eye icon to show it.

## Use your API key

Send it in the `Authorization` header of every request, with the word `Bearer` and a space before the key:

```
Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY
```

Example:

```bash
curl -X POST https://api.templated.io/v1/render \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY" \
  -d '{"template": "TEMPLATE_ID", "layers": {"title": {"text": "Hello"}}}'
```

Your key is a long code with letters, numbers and hyphens, like `1a2b3c4d-5e6f-7a8b-9c0d-1e2f3a4b5c6d`. Copy it exactly, without extra spaces.

## I don't see "API Key" in the sidebar

The API Key page is visible to team members with the **Owner**, **Admin** or **Developer** role. If you were invited to a team with another role, ask the team owner to change your role or to share the key with you.

All members of a team use the same API key, and renders made with it use the team's credits.

## Regenerate your API key

If your key was exposed, regenerate it:

1. Open the **API Key** page.
2. Click **Regenerate API Key** and confirm.
3. Copy the new key.

The old key stops working immediately. Update it everywhere you use it: your servers, Zapier, Make, n8n, MCP connections and any other app.

## Keep your key safe

- Do not put the API key in browser or mobile app code. Call the Templated API from your server.
- Store it in environment variables, not in your code repository.
- Regenerate it if someone who had access leaves your team.
