# Using Templated with AI Agents (MCP)

Templated has an MCP server (Model Context Protocol). It lets AI assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Claude Code use your Templated account by chat: list templates, create renders, create and edit templates, manage folders, uploads and fonts.

## How to connect

### Claude (web, desktop, mobile)

1. Open the Templated listing in the Claude directory: https://claude.ai/directory/templatedio
2. Click **Connect**.
3. Sign in to your Templated account to authorize.

You can also find it in Claude under Settings > Connectors by searching for "Templated".

### Other assistants (ChatGPT, Cursor, Claude Code...)

Add the remote server URL:

You will be asked to sign in to Templated the first time. For automations without a login screen, you can add your API key to the URL: `https://mcp.templated.io/mcp?apiKey=YOUR_API_KEY`.

A local server is also available with `npx mcp-server-templated` (requires Node.js 18 or higher).

### Multi-page and multi-size templates

The create and update template tools accept `pages`. Each page can have its own size and layers. This lets the AI create carousels, brochures or one template with several social media sizes. It can also add a new page to an existing template.

## What to expect

- **Template quality depends on the AI model.** The AI designs the layout, not Templated. Stronger models produce better templates. Use the most capable model available in your assistant. Treat AI-made templates as a starting point and refine them in the Templated editor.
- **Credits:** renders created by the AI use credits like any other render (1 per image, 1 per PDF page). Creating and editing templates does not use credits.
- **Template limit:** templates created by the AI count toward your plan's template limit, like templates you create yourself.
- **No watermark:** Templated never adds a watermark to renders, on any plan. If you see extra text on an image, the AI added it as a layer. Ask it to remove that layer.
- **Layer names matter:** if the AI uses a layer name that does not exist, the render keeps the template's default value. Ask it to check the template layers first.

## Troubleshooting

- **Tools do not appear:** restart the assistant completely after adding the server, and check that the configuration is valid JSON.
- **Authorization errors:** reconnect and sign in again, or check that the API key in the URL is current (regenerating the key makes the old one stop working).
- **Out of credits:** renders fail until you upgrade at https://app.templated.io/upgrade
