The Templated API allows you to programmatically generate images, PDFs, and videos from your templates.

Base URL

All API requests are made to:

https://api.templated.io/v1/

Authentication

Templated uses Bearer token authentication. Include your API key in the Authorization header of every request:

Finding Your API Key

Log in to your Templated dashboard
Go to API Integration in the sidebar
Your API key is displayed there—click to copy

Rate Limits

API requests are subject to rate limiting based on your plan. If you exceed the limit, you'll receive a 429 Too Many Requests response.

Getting Started with Make (Integromat)

Connect Templated to Make to automate image generation in your workflows.

Step 1: Install the Templated App

In your Make scenario, click + Add Module
Search for "Templated"
Select the Templated app

Step 2: Connect Your Account

Click Create a connection
Enter your API Key (find it at API Integration)
Click Save

Step 3: Configure the Module

Choose an action:

Create a Render — Generate an image/PDF/video
Get Templates — List your templates
Get Template Layers — Get layer info for a template

Create a Render Configuration

Select your Template ID from the dropdown (or map dynamically)
Set the Format (jpg, png, pdf, mp4)
Configure Layers:

Click Add item
Enter the Layer Name (e.g., "title")
Set properties like text, color, image_url

Example Workflow

Google Sheets → Templated → Google Drive

Google Sheets — Watch for new rows
Templated — Create render using row data

Templated supports various layer types, each with specific properties you can modify via API.

Text Layers

Display dynamic text content.

Key Properties:

text — The text content
color — Text color (hex, e.g., "#FF0000")
font_family — Font name
font_size — Size (e.g., "24px")
font_weight — Weight (normal, bold, 100-900)
horizontal_align — left, center, right
vertical_align — top, center, bottom
autofit — Auto-scale text ("width" or "height")

Image Layers

Display images from URLs.

Key Properties:

image_url — URL of the image
object_fit — How image fits: cover, contain, fill
filter — CSS filters (blur, brightness, etc.)

Shape Layers

Rectangles, circles, lines.

fill — Fill color (hex or gradient)
stroke — Border color

Using AI Generation

Go to Templates in your dashboard
Click Create with AI (or the AI button)
Enter a description like:

"Professional business card with minimalist design"
"YouTube thumbnail with bold text and gradient background"

Optionally upload a reference image
Click Generate
Review and customize the result

Tips for Better Results

Be Specific

Include Details

Purpose: social media, print, web banner

Search in the font picker
Includes 1,400+ font families
Automatically loaded

Custom Font Upload

Upload your own brand fonts:

Go to Uploads in the Editor sidebar
Click Upload Font
Select your font file (.ttf, .otf, .woff, .woff2)
Font appears in your font picker

Using Custom Fonts via API

Reference uploaded fonts by their exact name:

Font Licensing

⚠️ Important: Ensure you have proper licensing for:

Web/digital use
Commercial use (if applicable)
Embedding in generated files

Templated doesn't verify font licenses—compliance is your responsibility.

Best Practices

Test renders with custom fonts before production
Use web-optimized formats (WOFF2 preferred)
Keep file sizes reasonable (<500KB per font)
Include all weights you need (regular, bold, etc.)

Font Fallbacks

If a font fails to load, the render uses a fallback:

Sans-serif fonts → Arial
Serif fonts → Times New Roman
Monospace fonts → Courier

External ID Sessions

When using the embedded editor with external-id, uploaded fonts are associated with that session. Users see only their own uploaded fonts.

Important Notes

Links only work in PDF format
