Version History and Restoring Templates
Every time a template is saved, Templated keeps a copy of that version. You can go back to an earlier version from the editor.
Open version history
- Open the template in the editor.
- Click File (top left of the editor).
- Click Version history.
A panel opens on the right with the list of saved versions, newest first. Each version shows the date and time it was saved (for example "Sep 29, 2026 14:05", "2 hours ago"). The latest one is marked Current.
The list shows the 50 most recent saved versions.
Preview a version
Click Preview on a version to see how the template looked at that time. Nothing changes until you restore.
Restore a version
- Click Restore on the version you want.
- Confirm in the dialog "Restore this version?".
- You see "Version restored" and the editor loads that version.
Good to know:
- Restoring does not delete newer versions. It creates a new version from the old snapshot, so you can undo a restore by restoring again.
- Unsaved changes are lost when you restore. Save first if you want to keep them as a version.
- The template ID stays the same, so your API calls, Zapier, Make and n8n integrations keep working.
Tips to avoid losing work
- Auto-save: in the File menu, turn on Auto-save to save the template every 15 seconds.
- Don't edit the same template in two browser tabs (or two people at the same time). The last save wins and can overwrite the other tab's changes. If this happens, use Version history to restore the version you want.
- Turn off browser auto-translate (Google Translate in Chrome, Edge or Safari) while editing. Translated text can be saved into your template by accident.
- Duplicate before big changes: File > Duplicate template creates a copy you can experiment with.
- Clicking the Templated logo to go back to the dashboard saves the template before leaving.
Restore a deleted template
Deleted templates do not appear in My Templates and their version history cannot be opened from the editor. Our team can restore a deleted template, and it keeps the same template ID.
Send us a message in the chat with:
- The email of your Templated account.
- The template ID (if you have it, for example from your API calls or integration) or the template name.
- Approximately when it was deleted.
Restore an older version not in the list
If the version you need is older than the 50 versions shown, ask in the chat. Send your account email, the template ID and the approximate date of the version you need. Our team will check what can be recovered.
