How Credits Work

Templated uses render credits. Every plan includes a number of credits per month. You spend credits when you generate a file (image, PDF or video). Editing and saving templates is free.

How many credits does a render cost?

• Image (JPG, PNG, WebP): 1 credit per image.
• PDF: 1 credit per page. A 5-page PDF costs 5 credits.
• Multi-page template: 1 credit per page rendered. If you render all pages of a 4-page template, it costs 4 credits. If you send only 2 pages in the pages array, it costs 2 credits.
• Video (MP4): based on size, frame rate and duration:

• • 1920x1080 at 30 FPS for 10 seconds = 13 credits
  • 1280x720 at 30 FPS for 15 seconds = 8 credits
  • 1920x1080 at 60 FPS for 30 seconds = 75 credits

What uses credits

• Renders created with the API (POST /v1/render and other render endpoints).
• Renders from no-code tools (Zapier, Make, n8n, webhooks, spreadsheet bulk rendering). They use the API, so they cost the same.
• Downloading from the editor. Clicking Download in the editor creates a render, so it costs credits like an API render (1 per image or PDF page).
• Test renders in the Playground. Every test render is a real render.
• Merging PDFs with the merge endpoint: 1 credit per merge. See https://templated.io/docs/renders/merge/
• Catalog integration: generating the final catalog PDF costs 1 credit per page. Generating it again costs credits again.
• Background removal on an image costs 1 credit.
• AI template generation through the API costs 1 credit per generated template.

What does NOT use credits

• Creating, editing and saving templates in the editor.
• Cloning or duplicating templates.
• Creating a template from an existing render. See https://templated.io/docs/templates/create-from-render/
• Opening, viewing, sharing or downloading the URL of a render you already created. You can open a render URL as many times as you want.
• Opening a catalog in the editor before generating the final PDF.

Note: Importing from Canva and using the AI Template Generator in the app need at least 1 credit left in your account to start. Each new template created this way also counts toward your template limit.

Monthly credits, no packs, no sandbox

• Credits come only from your monthly subscription. There are no credit packs, no top-ups and no pay-per-use option.
• There is no sandbox or test environment. Every render, including test renders, uses credits.
• Unused credits do not roll over to the next month.
• Credits reset on the 1st of each month. See "When Do Credits Reset?".
• If you need more credits for one busy month, upgrade your plan. You can move back to a smaller plan later.
• If you upgrade in the middle of the month, the new plan's credits are available right away. Credits you already used this month still count, so your remaining credits are the new plan's total minus what you used.

Free trial credits

• New accounts get 50 free credits once, at signup.
• No credit card is needed.
• The trial has no time limit, but the 50 credits do not renew. When they are used, you need a paid plan to keep rendering.

What happens when you run out of credits

• The API returns HTTP 403 with this message:

  
  

  
  API quota exceeded. Upgrade your plan to generate more renders.

• For a render that needs more credits than you have left (for example a long video or a multi-page PDF), the API returns:

  
  

  
  Insufficient credits. This render requires X credits, but you only have Y remaining. Upgrade your plan to generate more renders.

• Failed renders are not queued. Templated does not keep them and does not retry them later. After you upgrade or after your credits reset, send those requests again.
• In the editor, a Download without credits will not finish (it can stay on "Downloading"). Upgrade, then download again.
• No-code tools may show a different error (for example an authentication or "Forbidden" error in Zapier). Check your credits first.

Usage warnings

Templated emails you before you run out:

• Free trial: at 60% and at 100% of your credits.
• Paid plans: at 75% and at 100% of your monthly credits.

Where to see your usage

• Account Settings (https://app.templated.io/account) > Credits & Limits: credits used this month, the date credits renew, templates created and team members.
• The sidebar of the dashboard shows your credit usage for the month.
• The Renders tab shows your renders and a render volume chart.
• With the API: GET /v1/account returns apiUsage, apiQuota and usagePercentage. See https://templated.io/docs/account/

Storage of renders

• Rendered files are stored with no storage limit and do not expire.
• You can link directly to the render URL (for example in emails or on your website).
• Opening or downloading a render URL does not use credits.

FAQ

Q: How many credits does one image cost?
A: 1 credit per image.

Q: How many credits does a PDF cost?
A: 1 credit per page. A 10-page PDF costs 10 credits.

Q: Does downloading from the editor use credits?
A: Yes. Download in the editor creates a render and costs the same as an API render.

Q: Does editing or saving a template use credits?
A: No. Only generating a file uses credits.

Q: Does the Playground use credits?
A: Yes. Test renders in the Playground are real renders and use credits.

Q: Do you have a sandbox or test mode with free renders?
A: No. Every render uses credits, including tests.

Q: Can I buy extra credits or a credit pack?
A: No. Credits come only with monthly subscriptions. To get more credits, upgrade your plan at https://app.templated.io/upgrade. You can downgrade later.

Q: Do unused credits roll over?
A: No. They reset on the 1st of each month.

Q: My free trial credits ran out. Will they come back next month?
A: No. The 50 trial credits are given once. Upgrade to a paid plan to get monthly credits.

Q: I get "API quota exceeded" or a 403 error. What does it mean?
A: You have no credits left this month. Upgrade your plan or wait for the reset on the 1st.

Q: Will the renders that failed while I had no credits be generated later?
A: No. Failed renders are not queued. Send them again after you upgrade or after the reset.

Q: Does opening a render link use credits?
A: No. Opening or downloading an existing render URL is free.

Q: How long are my renders stored?
A: Renders are stored with no expiration and no storage limit.

Q: Can I get extra or free credits?
